Death Watch

Help! I'm a relative newbie, but have read much over the last month (internet articles, library books, etc.). My tank is 3 weeks old and near the end of the cycle (no ammonia, but still processing nitrates and nitrites, pH currently 7.5 according to pet store, but closer to 6.5 using my cheap test kit, water temp 75F). I added some proper pH 7.0 to cover inbalance either way.

Anyway, Pooh (my daughter's clown loach), is struggling. He has laid on the bottom for the last 2 or 3 days breathing rapidly. No visible ich, but maaaybeee a slight film - hard to tell looking through the glass. Tankmates (blue gourami, dwarf gourami, irridescent shark) doing fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jody
