Followup to tank dust problem

Hi all,
Well, I've hopefully taken the steps to eventually de-dust my 20-gallon's tankwater. It was a long and painful process (for the fish too, probably), but I've changed over from my largish pepples to straight sand. I also upgraded to a more powerful filter, a Penguin 170. That part was unintentional; whilst changing the substrate, the crumby Top Fin filter I have ironically bit the dust, so to speak. Big loss... Not. I also took apart my sponge filter, which was coated on the inside with brown algae. Along these lines, my light is only on six or fewer hours a day usually - so what gives? Anyway, I refilled it with rinse charcoal and now it should be further purif
