Kuhli loach Questions

I have a 16 year old Kuhli loach. I'm wondering how long these damn things live. It has lived with guppies most of the time I've had it. We're looking to jazz up the tank and get some brightly colored fish, but want ones friendly to Coolie.

Do they get along all right with neon tetras?
