sick clown in hospital

Sick clown is a male approx. 3.5" He is normally very active, a dynamo. His female companion is approx. 5".

REGULAR TANK: clowns live with other docile fish in an outdoor community tank: 40 gallons, 8' x 2' x 4" plex. water temp. 78 degrees. Ph 7

SICK CLOWN: flesh is "missing" from his forehead. Scraps of normal flesh remain within the damaged area. the damaged flesh is greyish and looks somewhat spongy. Signs of tail and fin rot: small ragged holes at the base of his dorsal fin, and the interior inner edges of his caudel fin tails are a bit ragged as well.

TIMELINE: noticed problem in male clown loach 08/27. set-up a hospital tank and put in both loaches 08/31. Today is 4 of 5 day treatment with Maracyn-Two antibiotics.

CURRENT TREATMENT: Only the male is sick, but the two fish are devoted to each other and why increase the level of stress with heartbreak. I also put in their piece of bamboo, essential to their well-being.

I made the best guess I could given my limited knowledge and experience of fish symptoms/diseases and their appropriate treatments and went with internal bacterial.

HOSPITAL TANK: Temp is 80 degrees, PH is 7.2 bubbler for aeration. filter media is sponge (no carbon) will vacuum and do partial water change today.

FOOD: flakes only. woud like to add bloodworms.

BEHAVIOR IN HJOSPITAL: Female fish is fine but bored, has an appetite and is eating. she spends her time in and out of the bamboo, lies on bottom of tank. Is alert, responsive. But her activities are greatly curtailed within confines of hospital tank.

Sick Male mostly stays inside of bamboo. His dorsal fin is oftens flat against his back -- something I've never seen before. His forehead is still ragged. little or no appetitite.

TODAY: Sick male is a little bit more active.

What do you recommend?
