weather loaches

I recently bought 2 weather loaches. Occasionally (once or twice a week) I'll find a piece of white tissue/flesh-like substance in the water. What is this? Are my loacher shedding their skin? The most recent piece I saw occured while I was rearranging the tank. I had my hand in the tank and noticed one of the loaches on a rock with his mouth wide open and a white cloud around him and a piece of the white stuff behind him. He was fine as soon as I moved my hand towards him and he swam away. I hope someone can answer my question!!!
