Do the loaches watch you work on the big tank, knowing that it is for them? Do they anticipate their move by continuing to look at it when you are NOT working on it? I've seen loaches actually do this...
If you spill too much water on the carpet, it will develop mildew underneath and need to be replaced. And that's something the apartment management really *will* care about and charge you for. So, it is in your best interest to dry the carpet after the water changes and not let the water soak down too far. And since the carpet was probably cleaned with soap or chemicals that weren't completely rinsed out, reserve towels for carpet-drying that you *don't* use on aquarium equipment.
As for people stacking two 90's on top of each other in a second floor apt - there are places that are built that well. But it isn't every place.
However, I repeat from a past post - 50-55 gallons is simply not an issue. It's when you start talking about large tanks that are *tall* rather than *long* that there may be a problem. A 70 tall, for example, looks like trouble to me, whereas a 90 long is not. It's the distribution of the weight, not the total weight, at least within reason.
So, relax and enjoy your tank!
