Clowns Pack Hunting Neons

I have had four clown loaches (50mm - 2 inches) living quite harmoniously with kissers and some 12, now 2 neons for about 12 months since establishing my tank. Over the last week 10 neons have been systematically hunted down and devoured by the clown fish. Not that I care too much, but since lowering the temperature from about 29 degrees back to 27 degrees and filling the tank which had lowered about 50mm, due to me being slack, the clowns have shown no interest in the neons. Feeding has not changed from bloodworms and fakes;
Therefore my question is would temperature and/or the tank level and water flow from the filter inspire this hunting frenzy?
Any ideas??
