Shy Clowns

I have 5 clown loaches in a 20 gallon tank. I've had them for several months, but they still hide whenever I come around. Is there anything that will encourage them to get over their shyness, or does it just take them a long time to get used to their environment?

They are about 3 inches long, and they are share the tank with five tiger barbs. They have several rocks stacked in the middle to make caves, and that is where they spend most of their time.

Hope that's enough info. Any advice would help alot.
