Botia macracanthus - ill?

Hi, I'm german and writing here for the first time - so please excuse my bad english.
Now my question: I have 5 Botia macracanthus, the oldest since about 10 years. Normally they have on their head from their mouth to above their eyes very tiny holes (i do not know what it is, but I know that it has to be so). But now the "holes" of the oldest of them are much bigger, so that you can easily see them, but only on one side. The other side is normal. The loach is behaving normal, besides the big "holes" it seems to be healthy. The others are alright, too. Has anyone an idea what this could be?? Thanks for your answers?
