100 gallon tank

I am in the research stage of setting up a 100 gallon aquarium. Not exactly sure of the dimensions but approx 60" X 20" surface area. While I was initially considering tankbuster type fish I have firmly decided to make 5 or more clowns to be the centerpiece.Obviously I am hoping that they will grow quite large so here are the two questions...

1)How many clowns in this tank?
2)What do you recommend for upper-mid stratum tank-mates?
