loaches and plants

Hi. I hope someone can solve my problem. I have a heavily planted tank which at one point developed a freshwater snail infestation. On the advice of my LFS I purchased a clown loach (I plan to buy it a companion)which promptly erradicated the snail problem as promised. However, now that there are no snails the loach is eating holes in my broad leafed plants such as water lilies and amazon swords. I am feeding algae wafers but the plants are still being damaged. Is there another food the loach would prefer to help distract it from the plants?
Thanks, Laurel
