hospital tank?

Hi there,
As Ive said on a few of my posts Iam gettinga new tank after xmas. Ive had a tank before but have bought my fish from a local fish shop that I know very well and usualy medicates and quaritines his fish so I havent really bothered with a hospital tank before.

I know the reasons for setting one up etc but I just wandered if keeping gravel and plastic plants in it are ok? I dont know wether a bare bottom tank will be good for the fish and Id like to keep something in the tank to provide cover but that wont harbour any "nastys" once the fish has gone.

Can someone tell me the best way to set one up or provide insight as to how they have theirs set up....
Thank you once again
Jermand
