How many Clown Loaches will my tank support?

I've had freshwater aquariums & fish before and just bought a 6-gallon Eclipse tank and 3-tetras & 3-marble hatchets and all are doing well, eating & active. Both types won't grow to more than 1-1/2 - 2" in size. I'd like to add 2-small clown loaches to the tank & wondered how they'll do in this environment. I've read that I shouldn't have >1 fish per gallon of water, but since these guys are going to stay so small, can I fudge a little and add the loaches? Their personalities are so appealing, I'd like to add them to the community.
