Dojos and goldfish

I was wondering something. Weather loaches have the same basic range and probably the same basic habitat (Oriental lakes and streams) as goldfish, right? I was thinking...what if weather loaches do not have to be overwintered? Because in my goldfish reference book, it said that goldfish do not have to be overwintered to breed. I was wondering if the same thing applies to weather loaches? Also, goldfish seem to require little ore than a fifteen or twenty gallon tank to breed, so what makes weather loaches the picky ones on space?
