River Tank Questions (lots)

I'm setting up a 36" x 12" x 16" (L x W x H) 30-gallon river tank. The pipe layout is similar to Martin's tank from A River Runs Through It except I have only 2 pipes running at the bottom of the tank.

It has 2 sponges. Instead of drilling holes in the pipe (I have no drill), I just insert an inch of a pipe through the sponge and plug the other end. They are 7" cylinder tubes with a hole in the center big enough for 3/4" pipe. The sponge is about half an inch thick. Should I add another one?

I have 2 power heads. How strong should they be? Are 2 Second Nature Power Head 480 enough? Each is 480 liter/hour or 126 gallons/hour. With 2, the water cycles 8.4 times/hour. Is that enough? It's
