clowns in cloudy water

I recently purchased a mollie that was pregnant, but I didn't know this until I saw tiny little fish swimming around. I think a lot of the fry died before I separated them and now the water is very cloudy. I did a 25% water change and vacuumed the gravel, but nothing seems to have changed. I read some where that clowns don't do well in less than ideal conditions. Is this true? If so, what can I do about the water?
