dojos and goldfish

I have a question reguarding my dojos. I currently have 3 in a 20 gallon tank, 2 are ~5 inches and the third is ~3inches. I eventually want to get a bigger tank but college has sapped my bank account. What I want to know is if adding a small goldfish (~1-2 inches)would overburden the tank. I currently do gravel washes every 1-2 weeks but I haven't had the water tested in a while (I had a low pH problem for a while). I also wonder about what kind of gold fish to get. I like the "normal" shaped ones but the LFS recommended the fat/round ones because they do not grow as large. Thanks in advance to anyone who answers my questions.
