Can fish get Heart Attacks?

My largest dario last night, with no apparent physical damage. He did not die of old age since I've only had him for 2 years (almost). Anyway, when I was trying to clean him out of the tank, he slipped up the filter shaft where his gut ripped open, spilling small puffy and stringy objects into the water. I couldn't help but notice these looked extremely similar to the fat we found in our frogs we dissected in biology. He was quite fat, and I was wondering if this could possibly have been the cause of his death.
