Advice on cycling my new tank

Please give me some advice on what I can do to speed up the cycling on my tank. I have checked the water and the Ph is 7.4 on a low test and 8.8 on the high ph test, the nitrite seems to be ok but the amonia level although not real high it is present. The tank has clouded up from yesterday so what I can remember from past expierence I believe that is the beginning of the cycle. I would also like to add that the knowledge that you forum members have on aquariums and fish care is very impressive and I hope to someday be able to help with some of my knowledge like you have help me. Thank you all P.S what do some of the abreviated terms you use mean.
