Clown Behavior Question?

My clowns have reverted back to thier Newbie fish behavior; hiding constantly; for no apparent reason.
They went into hiding a week or so ago and I thought I lost them. I removed a large portion of watersprite that was growing like crazy and they reappeared.
Since showing up again they are very skittish.
Does anyone have any ideas as to their new behavior?
The water chemistry is loach heaven (I think);
ph a little high, no nitrates or ammonia and a slight current at one side of the tank.
I haven't noticed any aggression from the other fish. The clowns don't appear sick or injured. They have numerous places to hide and nothing new has been added except on of those magnetic sharks that are 1/2 in and 1/2 outside the tank. (Could this be the cause?)
Any ideas?
