Nomenclature comin' atcha!

Wow, thanks for those insights Hans. It's amazing just how much things chop and change in the cut and thrust world of classification. So Barbatula barbatula does have spines? I should imagine these would be very hard to see. I too know several places where I can and do catch specimens of this species and I have never observed spines. I caught several just messing around with a net whilst on my A-level biology field trip.

I would be most indebted to you if you could give me some more info on those articles you mentioned. I am really interested in what you were saying about Botiidae becoming a full blown family in its own right. I too thought it to be just a subfamily of Cobitidae. Thanks and regards.
