Have you looked at the post from Sandy a few days ago with exactly the same heading? Her symptoms are pretty much the same, with a pair of weather loaches developing internal lumps.

WARNING: everything below this is half-informed speculation. Get real advice from a vet.

It is possible that they are tumors caused by a virus ... the book I have handy indicates that this is a possibility. It suggests pollutants as another possible cause, especially heavy metals, but that would be unlikely to cause a 100% rate of occurance.
