Powerheads for aeriating loach tanks?

Ok, here's a question that's been on my mind as I've been budgeting my tank swap...

I've done a modest amount of research and from what I've seen, bubble wands really don't improve the oxygen concentration in the water - that most of the gas exchange happens at the surface, and is improved by surface turbulence. It seems there are several ways to achieve this, but the one I'm looking at (since it also provides current deep into the tank) is a powerhead.

Does anyone have any experience, pointers, URLs, etc. that might add to my woeful lack of information? I'm sure my clowns would love more current in the tank (not TOO much, of cours
