botia = plant destruction?

I was wondering what experinces people have with the botia family tearing up plants or uprooting them.. I have a densely planted tank that I would really like to add loaches to, but in past tanks somebody has always torn plants up. I narrowed down the culprits to angels or loaches--I think it was my modesta that was up to no good, but I could never catch him in the act. I doubt that my angels would tear up plants when numerous people have angels with no problems.. think about the altums in some of amano's tanks.
I am looking for thoughts/ideas/experiences that you guys have regarding botia destroying plants.

Thanks,
Sarah
