Powerhead flow reduction.

I just remembered something I was going to post weeks ago (mainly because I've just had to remedy a situation again).
We have Aquaclear 802 powerheads on our River-Tank. If anyone else uses these or other models of that make, you'll know that they have a grille built into the intake port where the cone shaped adapter fits.
I noticed that suddenly both the powerheads were not projecting bubbles up the tank as normal. This was because flow was reduced.
I switched them off and pulled them out the tank, only to discover the grilles blocked with empty snail shells! Now, theoretically, the River-Tank manifold is a sealed to snail ingress unit, but what I think has happene
