Paralysis in Kuhli Loach?

I have a small (approx. 2 inch) kuhli loach that I added to my ten gallon tank a week ago. This a.m. I found the loach laying on the bottom of the tank with its body curved and gills still functioning. The loach is obviously in distress and can only seem to move the upper 1/8 of its body. I did perform a water change yesterday and the fish seemed fine. Ammonia/Nitrate content is good. Has anyone ever experienced this before. Any suggestions on what I might do to help the situation would be appreciated. The kuhli is in a tank with a few live plants, one male betta (docile) and a 5 inch gold weather loach. The other fish appear normal.
