Now the ortho is gone....

Tonight I tried to lightly, and I mean VERY lightly medicate my river tank. After watching the effects on the fish closely for about four hours, I didn't notice any problems with the way the fish acted. Then suddenly, I saw my only ortho having trouble swimming and then laying on its back and breathing heavy. Within minutes it was dead. I immediately did a large water change and changed the carbon. I looked into the tank to check out the other fish and the rest were acting as if nothing was wrong. So, did my mysterious disease kill my ONLY ortho, or did the medication? Once again, I have lost the only specimen of a species I have only seen once. I wonder when this is going to end?
