Modesta Botia New Set-up Question

Hi! I'm a newbie to the board (I can see you cringing!), but have been addicted to fish for quite some time. I’m looking into setting up a species tank for modestas, would the experts mind reviewing and giving comments?

I have a 3.5-inch modesta botia currently in my 29-gallon community tank, with 2 pl*cos, two mixed larger tetras (I’m in process of cutting down the tetras to get something else or have only the pl*cos, that’s why there isn’t a larger school). I’d like to move the modesta out of the tank and into a 20 gallon long, and add a friend or two (also modestas). My plans include a smaller grain substrate, an Eclipse top to keep everyone in, and lots of hiding places.

Questions: Will this be enough room for 2 or 3 modestas at this size or smaller? Based on the old rule of 1” per gallon or whatever, I am ok, but I’d like a loachy expert opinion! Am I just begging for trouble? I did a search through the archives; saw mixed discussions about whether modesta were social or territorial.

Thanks for your help in advance!
Kerry
