washing plastic plants

I have some plastic plants in my community tank that have some brown/red color stuff on them...and will have more in my loach tank,, I wonder, could I take an old Boy Scout dip net,,, like they used to dip their dishes, and put in the washing machine, and rinse and rinse, and rinse , on the gentle cycle maybe...
just another dumb question
