How long does a loach live?

I have two weather loaches; one is about six years old and 8" long; the other is around 6" in
length but is a real old 'un; he/she is definitely known to be at least 20 years old.
Both live in a cold-water aquarium with a couple
of shubunkins and are fed only on fishflakes. I would like to know how long loaches might be expected to live (and grow!). And; could they benefit from other types of food? I have never been able to find much information on loaches; all the petshops have is info on tropicals. Please feel free to email me direct with any news.
