Funny story....off topic, but fish orientated anyway.
My wife's cousin Alex introduced the first fish the other day into his new 6-foot tank. The first fish in were two Pike Cichlids, Crencichla saxatilis. We've had the female in a 30 and Alex had the male in a smaller tank.
We introduced the fish and immedeatly they started having a set-to, jaw-locking and stuff. It looked like an even match at we figured it was Male-Female testing out action which these fish will do as part of pair bonding. Eventually, for some reason, the male chickened out and now the female has the upper hand. The introduction of two larger fish, Golden Firemouths didn't change things. Now she bugs them as well!
We've been using an interesting diversionary tactic if she gets too rough. Those of you who know the film "Monsters Inc" will be familiar with Mikey, the Green blob thing with one big eye.
We had a birthday party last year and all wore Mikey pointed party hats. The fronts of these have one huge eye and the toothy grin. We keep "looking" into the tank with one of these hats and boy does it freak out this Pike! She runs a mile from this monstrous toothy predator! So funny to watch.Martin.
