planning and planting for loaches

I would like to have some loaches again (after many fishless and loachless years), and this time around, I'd like lots of live plants. seachem fluorite and onyx which both are good for plants, but I'm wondering if they are too sharp for loaches. Anyone have any experience with these and loaches?

I'd love to get clowns, but don't know if I can provide enough space (they might inherit a 29G if the goldfish move up to a 55). The Yoyo loaches seem very popular and not too big, but some people speak of them as aggressive. Are there any not-so-large loaches with temperments equal to the wonderful clowns?
