good PH range for loaches

Because of high Nitrate levels in the tap water, I just started using R/O water. I'm making it a 60% R/O, 40% tap water mix. The problem is, it's greatly affecting my PH, I've never had to worry about this before. I did a water change last night and woke up to one dead rainbow and the rest of my fish at the top of the tank, except the loaches (Orange Tail and clown's) at the bottom gasping for air. I've already started bring the PH back up, it was at 6.5. My question is how high should I bring it and how can I keep the PH there w/o chemicals when I change the water with R/O mixture? My other tank with most of the loaches seems find but the PH is at the same level.

Here's my tanks setup

30gal:
5 Golden Zebra Loaches
3 Yoyo Loaches
4 Green Tiger Loaches
8 Skunks
1 Clow
