Q on Feeding Shrimp to Loaches

Well, my loachies are going to eat better than I do!!

My two largest clowns and three of my modestas are now so large they ignore the bloodworms and brine shrimp and suck up mixed veggie flakes, algae tablets, and earthworm sinkers. All this dry food can't be that healthy, so I decided I'm going to get some shrimp and feed them the good stuff!

I'm not sure how to prepare the shrimp first to minimize the chance that they might choke on too large a piece - should I leave it raw or steam it first? And should I chop it up or just throw the shrimps in whole?

I also heard from a friend that she's heard that some loachkeepers clean smelt and feed them cut up and raw to the loaches - has anyone heard of this before??!?!?

Can someone with experience doing this please
