Yo Yo's suddenly are fighting!

I purchased 2 yo-yo's (Botia almorhae)in 2000 as juveniles. They have grown up in a Rift Lake cichlid tank with my africans and have easily held their own. The larger of the two (3") has always seemed dominant over the other (2.5")one,but no fighting has been observed. They tend to be together mainly, with the more dominant one following the smaller, kind of pestering it. But now, suddenly the larger is quite often biting the smaller on its side mid-body. The smaller reacts to the bites with a start, and I observed a small red wound. Is this normal behavior that they should work out, or will I end up having to separate them? I would have had a larger group but these were all I could find until lately and now it seems like it would be too late to add any.
