Isla answered some, so I'll dive in here now!

I feed Hikari algae tablets, they're a hit in my tank with my plecos and even my big clowns! My tank boss clown will hoover up a whole tablet and run off with it, she must think it's loachy carry-out! You can find them for sale online and I'm sure there's somewhere you can get them if you want to give them a try.

Loaches are pretty sensitive to copper it's not normally something you'd find a lot of in your water unless you have old metal plumbing and then it might be an issue! If your eel is happy I doubt you have problems with metals its likely something else maybe just a combination of cold stress and a "bad barbel day", my yoyos will sometimes chase each other all over and get stressed out from it the si
