Eheim wet/dry questions (also on FW forum)

Hi all
I've just splashed out and purchased an Eheim 2227 to supplement my 2213 on my 50g tank. I've got some questions regarding gas exchange that I hope someone can help me with.

First of all, can I now ditch my airstone (finally)? The wet/dry function will keep the water well-aerated 24/7 right?

Secondly, will it be ok to send my co2 into the intake of the filter? I do this on the 2213 with no probs, was wondering if the wet/dry made the situation any different.

I have been using the airstone till now because the oxygen levels fall too much at night. I realise that this depletes co2 but I keep fish first and plants second
