Loach compatibility / snails

I have a 40 gallon planted tank with 2 Hillstream loaches, and a bunch of Angel fish that I really enjoy. For plants, there are 4 amazon swords that have been ravaged by an outbreak of snails. I bought this setup used, so I've been dealing with some bad decisions made by the original owner. One of the major bad decisions was his choice of Malaysian snails. Recently, there has been an epidemic outbreak in the breeding of these guys. There were probably about 10-20 adults, and what seemed like hundreds of little ones on everything.

What's the consensus on Malaysian snails? Do they harm plants? I'm looking for ways to control them, and I was told that skunk botia are a good snail eating loach. I've also read that clown loaches are good for snail control. What I'm wondering is w
