OT: Hardy Fish?

I hope OT means off topic, that was a stab in the dark.

Anyway, I know this forum is about loaches, but I was hoping that you could put in your opinions about which fish are easy to look after (disease wise).

The reason I ask is that I've recently found white spot on two platies in my tank. I immediatly removed the platies, raised the temp, added salt and added med the next day when I bought it.

But if I lose all my fish then I think the only way I'd start again would be with fish I couldn't kill - it's too depressing.

I have no idea about either cychilds or rainbows, but these were 2 species I was thinking about recolonising my tank with (one of the two, not both) if I lose everything. Are either
