loach tank question

i have a 60 gallon acrylic tank, set up primarily for clown loaches (which i love). i have some barbtails in there, because the clowns seem less fearful with the barbtails for some reason. well, all the loaches seem normal, doing their loachy dance & all. BUT one of the barbtails has started swimming pointed 'down' all the time. he'll 'right' himself and then point downwards and hold that position. keeps repeating it, like his equilibrium is off. i need to know if this is contagious, and if i should just pull him before the whole tank is infected. any direction would be appreciated.
i took a picture of it, but i forgot one needs to have a place to upload to before linking, and i'm not that organized this morning.
