Can Ich lay Dormant?

Many of you will recall a lively discussion we had a few weeks ago on the topic of whether Ich can lay dormant, or if it's just a wives tale and cases are actually caused by contamination. In the time since then I have worked with several people including a university student, and, through her, a Cornell university professor, and a researcher with the USDA.

It is believed that Ich can not lay dormant in a technical sense, however it can exist in a latent manner -- almost inactive -- and this is what people actually experience. Along with the more likely and more common contamination.

If this topic interests you please look in my notes at "Can Ich lay dormant?":

I believe my notes on the subject to be as accurate as possible at this time. They are, however, a "working document" and I will always be looking for new input.

Thanks to all who helped with this project.
