Snails as a long-term diet?

Hi folks,
Are snails a bad diet for loaches in the long run? I keep having snail outbreaks despite my best efforts, and while my 4 Kuhlis LOOOOVE eating them I'm worried that it may not be the healthiest thing for them. I say this because they stop eating any other kinds of food I offer them when there are snails about.
