I want sand but is it okay for the goldfish?

I'm really interested in replacing my rocks with sand. All for the sake of my dojos. Is this possible with goldfish in the tank? I have a big Fantail, 2 black moors, 3 basic feeder goldfish, the chinese algae eater and my 2 dojos.
I've read some of the posts here about sand ruining filters, making tank cleaning easier, etc.
Can i introduce sand with goldfish? Where do i purchase tank sand?
anyone have any pros and cons?
