Sick Clown??

Forgive me if there's a FAQ I should have been reading... new to this site, and to loaches, and thought it's time to ask the pros.

I have three small (3" or so) Clown loaches in a 55 gal with plants, fine black sand substrate, lots of rocks to hide in, and mollies/swords/small tetras for tankmates. Recently observed that one of the Pep Boys was not only hiding during feeding time (very odd) he was easy to catch (worrisome) and thin as death (alarming!). No obvious signs of a disease or parasite, just terribly thin, so I placed him in a breeder box with a bit of substrate, some foil on the tank cover to provide him some shade, and pushed this arrangement into a plant so he'd have some privacy.

At first he just hung at the water surface, body arched as if dead, but he'd move if anyone walked by... and would not eat. Flake foo
