Barbara...Flourite for loaches

Hi, did anyone answer this part of your question? I know that Joe Loach has some opinions on this, esp. regarding cory barbels.

For myself, I see how much my loaches like to root around in the substrate, so I prefer to give them something less sharp to deal with.

I have had loaches on Flourite, with no problems, but it wasnt long term. When I re-did the tank, and another tank I have, I put a layer of Flourite on the bottom and then added sand on top. It isnt fine sand tho. In one tank, I put mesh over the Flourite to keep it all from mixing and the plants put down roots thru it fine.

I just think that they'll be more comfortable, and have less wear on their barbels, on a substrate that isnt sharp like Flourite. If you are just planning a tank, Flourite has some o
