Shy clowns

My clowns are driving me up the wall. I have had the three of them for about a year, and in their current tank for about 5 months and they are so shy!! They were perfectly ok (swimming all over the place and very happy) until about 3 weeks after I moved them, then they disappeared up a hollow log and only emerge in the dead of night, or to make occasional mad dashes across the tank. They appear very healthy - they have tripled in size since I bought them (& are very round), have good colour and no Ich for 6 months +. The tank is in a quiet location. I have tried - softer lighting, removed anything big or bossey (after them a guppy is the biggest!), offer them heaps of hiding places in the tank and in desperation have got a 4th one (who is happiliy swimming around the tank and making regular visits to his new friends).
