Stress Coat

Ages ago I was advised by staff at a reputable LFS to use Stress Coat for all the reasons it lists on the label. I recall a thread on this site that discussed slime coat "stimulators" and their process of irritating the skin to stimulate slime coat production. Unfortanately, I can't find that thread again.

Could my use of Stress Coat have contributed to a stubborn case of columnaris that I'm still fighting for one rainbow in the hospital tank? (All rainbows in the main tank look ok finally and the loaches never showed any symptoms)

Have I been weakening their natural defense system unknowingly? This idea just came to me last night while trying to fall asleep and I almost got out of bed to write to all you helpful loach-folks!
