Death of a well-loved loach

I lost the elder of my two Pakistani/Yoyo loaches on Monday of this week. I found him (I know the two were the same sex, don't ask me how) on his side under two of the "nesting" rocks that they have overtaken in my 29g tank, which held the other Pakistani and three angels who seem never to notice their bottom-dweller compatriots.

Anyway, so I put him in my free-floating breeder, unsure of the problem. I had no medication, and besides being on his side the only signs of distress were rapid breathing and a reddish tinge to his front half. He did not try to upright himself, so I added aquarium salt and turned off the light.

Three hours later he hadn't improved. The other loach is fine, and I haven't lost anyone. I suspect an ammo
