Current best practice for river tanks?

We're moving to a new house soon, which means I'm going to be able to redo my couple of tanks and move everyone into bigger accomodation -my weather loaches and goldfish can finally get that 240L tank I promised them last year!

What I'm actually wondering about is what is currently considered the best we can do for the hillstream loaches. I've just lost my last one , who had been around for 18 months and just faded away for no discernable reason. If you were going to set up a new, small river tank today, how would you do it?

What planting would you do? How much flow are we looking for? Do we want venturi or ari stones in the tank? What sort of substrate and furniture? How about food sources. Are we sure what the hillstreams e
