New Loaches and behavior

I just got 2 Clown Loaches for my sons tank which is about a week old. I used to have loaches as a kid and love them. Still do and my son is taking a loving to them as well.

If the loach is swimming up and down the side of the tank and breathing fast, does this mean the fish is distressed?

The ammonia is borderline and the nitrates too. I was planning to change the water now, that is change 20% of the tank.

Also, the loaches seem to be very hungry, and are being very aggessive about eating food. Should I give them more food and what is best to give them. Thanks a bunch.
